Railway Budget 2011: No More Price Hike For Train Fares This Year | Mamata Presents Railway Budget 2011

NEW DELHI: For the third successive year, the Railway Budget for 2011-12 spared the passengers of any increase in fares and proposed no hike in freight rates while introducing 56 new trains, including nine non-stop Duronto trains and three Shatabdis.

Regretting the two incidents of sabotage that led to a large number of deaths last year, Mamata said to avoid such incidents in future, anti-collision devices will be commissioned in three more divisions and all unmanned crossings will be done away with in the next fiscal.

Mamata, however, said rail accident rate has declined from 0.29 per cent last year to 0.17 per cent at present. The states with lowest number of rail accidents will get two new projects and two new trains as an incentive, she said.

The booking charges for A/C as well as non A/C seats have been slashed by 50 per cent and online ticketing is all set to get cheaper.
The minister also extended concession for physically-challenged persons and Kirti and Shaurya Chakra awardees to travel in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, besides extending facility of card passes to parents of unmarried posthumous Paramvir Chakra and Ashok Chakra gallantry award winners.

Also, the lower age limit for female senior citizens will be reduced from 60 to 58. Concession for male senior citizens has been increased by 10% to 40%.One of the highlights of the budget was the introduction of over 200 new routes, especially for the North-East. Another special addition is the introduction of double-decker air-conditioned train service on the Jaipur-Delhi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai routes.

Three new Shatabdi trains will be introduced on Pune-Secunderabad, Jaipur- Agra and Ludhiana-Delhi routes, she said. New Duronto trains will be introduced on Allahabad-Mumbai, Pune-Ahmedabad, Sealdah-Puri, Madurai-Chennai, Chennai- Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai Central-New Delhi routes.

As many as 47 additional trains will be introduced for the Mumbai suburban section and nine for Chennai, Banerjeee said.
Also, trolleys will be introduced at railway stations, said the minister. The 'Go India' smart card ticket project will be launched this year.

The railways is planning to invest Rs 57630 cr in the 2011-12 fiscal and railway earnings, she said, are set to exceed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark.
As many as 442 stations are to be completed and 584 upgraded by 2012 and new railway line capacities are to be increased to 700 km, she said.

Banerjee announced that the first coach from the new rail factory at Rae Bareli will roll out in the next three months. Also, there is a plan to set up a rail industrial park in Nandigram and a metro coach factory in Kolkata. A coach factory is also planned to come up at Singur as is a track-machine industry in Uluberia.

A locomotive centre is to come up in Manipur's Imphal. Railways is to set up a bridge factory in J&K considering need for large number of bridges on railway projects in the state, Banerjee said.
Enthused by the high number of medals in international sports competitions won by the Railways, a Sports Cadre will be set up in the department.
As many as 16,000 ex-servicemen will be inducted by March in the Railways for the first time. A 700 MW gas-based power plant will be set up at Thakurli in Maharashtra, she said.

The James-Anne pair also takes a first in being the youngest couple to host the Oscars. Apart from having a fantastic onscreen chemistry Ms. Hathaway has revealed to media that she gave the nod to host the Oscars after learning that Franco has nodded yes to host the show. The hosts this time have reportedly made it clear that they will host the show without singling out anyone unlike the previous Oscars; but at the same time not make it too serious.

James Franco has two reasons to be nervous on February 27. One that he is co-hosting the 83 Academy Awards event and two for being nominated for the best actor award for his role in Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’. On hosting the Oscars, the actor has revealed that he shouldn’t make obvious mistakes because then it becomes a part of the show. Anna Hathaway is worried about the show going wrong in so many different ways!

But rest assured the duo have been practicing hard and the sneak peaks and the photo shoots have come out really well, so folks cross your fingers and wait for the D-day, when your favorite stars and favorite films will walk out with the golden statutes clutched in their hands.

Mahindra Or Hero Gobble Up Hyosung

BREAKING: COULD MAHINDRA OR HERO GOBBLE UP HYOSUNG?

2011-Hyosung-GT650R1

2011 Hyosung GT650R

What goes around comes around and if this potentially happens, South Korean motorcycle major, Hyosung could find itself gobbled up by either Mahindra Two Wheelers or by Hero Motors, which recently split it’s two decade old partnership with Honda. Once upon a time, when the erstwhile Kinetic Engineering Limited existed, it tied up with Hyosung and brought the Kinetic GF125 and GF170 models to India along with a couple of imports like the Hyosung Aquila Cruiser and the Hyosung Comet 250.

Both the imports sold like hot cakes but Kinetic, for reasons best known only to it, stopped importing more shipments after the initial one or two. Even so, the Aquila and Comet 250 enjoy a good fan following in India and Pune based Garware Motors is all set to encash on this by assembling and launching the Hyosung ST7 Cruiser and the Hyosung GT650R in the near future. Even as Garware is finalizing dealers across many Indian cities, this bit of buzz emerges, and it does as a shocker.

Mahindra Two Wheelers needs new technology to survive and hence the Hyosung acquisition makes a lot of sense for the firm. Hero Motors, now finding itself in no-mans land with Honda exiting also needs to launch bigger capacity motorcycles to stay relevant even as Bajaj, Mahindra and Honda ready themselves for a big push in the premium 250cc plus motorcycle segment of the Indian motorcycle market.

So, either of these two players might just end gobbling up the South Korean Hyosung and liquid cash not being a limiting factor for both these firms, expect a very stiff battle right up to the finish if indeed Mahindra and Hero decide to go for Hysoung. What then will happen to Garware Motors and the impending launch of the ST7 and GT650R is the biggest question which is on our minds now. This move from Hero and Mahindra definitely puts the Garware Motors-Hyosung tie up hanging in balance.

We hope that the coming days will see some clearing of air at least on this front as motorcycle enthusiasts will want to hold on to their monies till the air is clear about which way the Hyosung deal will go.
